How-To: Insure Your Possessions
We highly recommend insuring your belongings while they are in storage. Although we go to great lengths to ensure the safety of your belongings, there are circumstances that are beyond our control that could result in harm to your belongings. Your homeowners' or business insurance policy may cover items stored outside your home or place of work, but most won't cover flood damage. Consider purchasing a personal articles policy for valuables and larger ticket items.
Keep a list of EVERYTHING you have stored in your unit, and remember to update that list each time you put more items into storage or take anything out.
Some other things to keep in mind:
Be extra careful when storing vehicles
– Storage insurance policies cover most items commonly stored, however vehicles are not covered. All facilities require vehicles to be covered by an existing auto insurance policy.
Know what you're worth– Purchasing the correct amount of insurance guarantees that if something happens, you're covered.
If you love it, list it
– If your home or business insurance covers your storage unit, make sure that your valuable items are listed on the insurance policy.
